November 10, 2008 - Today we begin our study of the U.S. Constitution. Since we just went through an election, this is an excellent time to learn about how our government operates. We will learn the following information in this unit:
* What were the Articles of Confederation
* Why were they not sucessful in governing the country
* What was Shay's Rebellion
* Where was the constitutional convention held?
* Who participated?
* Who is the "Father" of the Constitution?
* What are the six principles the constitution is based on?
* What were the issues and compromises of the convention.
* What is the bill of rights
As you can see, there is a great deal of material to cover in this unit. This is one of the most important units we will have all year. Constitution questions will be on the TAKS test in 8th, 10th, and 11th grade.

- Nancy Cooper
- I was born in Edinburg, Texas (down in the valley) and have lived all over the state. I have been married to Jim Cooper for 22 years and we have 4 children - Heather, Ben, Kristen, and Emily. I also have 1 grandson named Jackson who will be two on 9/28.I also love animals, we have several pets - chickens, pygie goats, a tea cup chiuaua,a chinchilla and a cow named Christmas. Jim was in the Air Force for 20 years. During that time we lived in New Mexico, the Azores, Louisiana, Alaska, and Texas. This is my 5th year to teach Social Studies at Veribest. I love teaching here. I think it is really great to have the same students from year to year. We get to know each other really well. I work with a great group of kids and teachers. I love my job and look forward to coming to work everyday!
